Mark Harbert here. And in today's video, I'm going to share with you some new updates to YouTube shorts that you need to know about. All right, so we're going to dive right in. Now, one of the things that I love is YouTube shorts is such a great way to share content. And if you know me, you know that I love YouTube. YouTube is such a powerful platform. It's been around a long time. It's really the behemoth and it's the best place to put your content because it has search capability and your content can live on for a very long time. Now, as opposed to certain social media platforms where you can put your videos there and you should, but the problem is those videos disappear after a while. That's why I love YouTube and these new changes to YouTube shorts are going to make it even more amazing. So let's go ahead and dive in and we're going to talk about these updates. All right. So on this article, this just came out on October 3rd, 2024, and it's called tall updates coming to shorts. And one of the things that you'll notice here, and we're just going to go down the line here and I'm going to share with you exactly what it's about, but, in shorts, this is the big one that I really want to focus on. They're making storytelling on shorts, more immersive. if you're familiar with. TikTok and reels and Facebook reels. TikToks, you can have videos up to 10 minutes long and on Reels, Instagram and Facebook, you can have up to 90 seconds long. YouTube is now announcing that starting October 15th, you can upload longer shorts up to three minutes long. I love that because if YouTube is the source, it's the main place that you're really focused on. What's great about this. is that it gives you more flexibility to create your video for YouTube. then you can make some changes if you want to put them on Facebook and Instagram reels cause they can only be up to 90 seconds, but tick tock can take the video no matter what. So you really don't have to create so many different versions of it. if you want to make sure that it's compatible on all platforms, you want to make sure that it is less than 90 seconds. But I love that we can start putting some focus on longer shorts because the trend is people are trending back to longer videos and YouTube realizes this Tic Tac realized that a good year or two ago and they've allowed you to put up longer videos because they want people on their platforms longer. So this whole idea that people continue to, you know, push and I've even pushed it is that attention spans are horrible. I just don't believe that today. I think that the more and more I look at it, people have attention spans. They're just looking for something that interests them. And if something interests them, they'll watch it. It's not that their attention spans are bad. It's just, they have more options. And that's a big difference. So the goal is create content that's interesting to people. And now you have three minutes that you can do that in a short, that is awesome. And I absolutely love that. And also, if you can notice right here, it says, Recent updates to the player streamline its look allowing creators content to take center stage and viewers to focus on the content they love. So there's more things that are coming to the player inside of YouTube Shorts. So that's going to be a great thing that you can utilize as well. See a short you like now you can easily recreate the magic with templates. This is another update. that YouTube is adding into shorts. Jump on the latest trends, match your clips to the hottest sounds and add your own unique flair. You can try templates by tapping remix on a short that inspires you and select use this template or give it your own spin. So that's a really cool one that I think is great. All right. Now this is a big one. I think this is awesome. TikTok has had this for a while. It's great to see. more of this coming to YouTube, stand top of trends, never miss a beat with the new shorts trends page on mobile, discover what's hot in your country, get inspired and jump into the trend. So that is a huge one. So if you want to jump into trends on YouTube, That's going to be great. want to get a taste of conversation? You'll soon be able to get a preview of what people are saying in the comments right from the shorts feed, even before you jump into the comments feed. So that's going to be interesting how that looks. So you're going to be able to look at comments. right in the feed. I think that's a cool thing. We'll see how that looks once that drops. and I love this. One of the things that, has happened is, you'll notice, especially on YouTube, and there are different viewers between people who like long videos and people who like short videos. And some people who like long videos don't like to see so many shorts. So this is now giving you the ability. that you can customize your YouTube experience based on your preferences. So we'll introduce an option to show fewer shorts. You can choose this setting by clicking on the three dot menu in the upper right of any short grid on your home feed, and we'll temporarily show you fewer shorts in your home feed. So if you want to see less shorts, You can do that. So those are the major updates that are coming to YouTube. I'm really excited about the three minute long videos. I think that is going to be awesome. I think that's really going to bring a lot more depth to shorts and it gives you more. time to create a better experience and a better video for people to watch. Because ultimately what this is about is it's about creating great content. And I don't know about you, but it's very difficult for me in 60 seconds to get my point across. And I'm very happy that they're extending this to three minutes. Again, October 15th, 2024. That's when it hits. So get your videos ready. And really, when you think about it from a repurposing standpoint, it's going to be so much easier in your workflow to be able to put that out there. So I love it. I'm excited.
