0:00 The big mistake with your videos
You're making this huge mistake with your videos, and here's how to fix it. One of the number one things that I see with people when they're going live on social, when they're creating a video, is there are a couple very simple things that you can do right out of the gate that will help you to have better click-through rates, better views, better action, better engagement, and that is the headline and the thumbnail.
0:31 Why your headline matters
Now, today, we're specifically gonna focus in on the headline of your video and why it's important. Now, it's important to realize that your headline, I believe, can really make or break your video. And because really, it's the first thing that people see. It's the first thing they see, it's the first thing that's gonna grab their attention.
And if you don't have something that grabs their attention and creates some curiosity, even some urgency, or there's a clear benefit to them, then it's not gonna pull people in and they're not gonna even wanna watch your video. I can't begin to tell you how many times I have seen live videos pop up on my news feed and they have no headline in them.
There's no incentive for me to watch it other than, "Oh, here's a friend of mine I haven't seen in a while." There's no real benefit to me hopping on and watching it. So it's very important that you really put some focus on focusing on the headline, because the headline is just crucially important. All right?
1:34 Headline templates that work
Let me give you a couple headlines that you could use also that would help you. These are some templates that I put together that I think really work well. So if you're looking for a simple formula for it's very easy to do. But here's one: "Stop doing this if you want to lose that last five pounds."
So basically what you're doing is you're inserting the desirable outcome that they want. So stop doing this if you want to lose weight faster. Very simple, you just insert that in. Okay, here's another one: "The truth about losing weight that no one's telling you."
I'm just using losing weight as an example in health and wellness. Okay? So the truth about losing weight that no one tells you, here's another one. You can insert a number in there.
It could be like four quick tips to achieve weight loss in seven days. So what you're doing is you're adding in a number, the number of tips, the achieved goal that they want to accomplish, and then you're giving a timeframe. So that's another way to do a good headline. All right.
2:43 The psychology of the click
So point number two that I wanna make about your headline and why it's crucially important is there are, there's psychology involved in it. Psychology is one of the number one things that we do when we are marketers.
We are focused on getting people to take action, triggering something in their mind, an emotion or something that gets them to move. So we wanna tap into curiosity, fear even, excitement, urgency. There, there's so many emotions that we can tap into, and it's something to keep in mind as you're writing your headline or coming up with your headline.
3:23 Use ChatGPT for more headlines
Now, one of the cool ways that you can come up with additional headlines is obviously through ChatGPT. ChatGPT is a very powerful way for you to really tap into and get to you know, see different headline templates.
3:37 Keep it short and use numbers
But the key is also with a good headline is you wanna keep it short, quick, and easy to read. The psychology of the click-worthy headline is super important.
So you wanna tap into that curiosity, fear, excitement, urgency. And one of the things that can help you from a psychology standpoint is always numbers. Numbers work really well.
People like to know tips. They like to know strategies. They like to know five tips for this, five strategies for that. That can actually really help you when it comes to your headlines.
4:14 More headline templates
So let me give you a couple other templates that I have here. So in other words, keep it short, bold, and you wanna make it scroll-stopping. So here's the templates. Here's some more.
You're making this huge mistake in blank. Here's how to fix it. So if you notice on my video, I actually used this one today. You're making this huge mistake with your videos, and here's how to fix it.
You see how that works? You're creating curiosity. You're making a bold statement that, man, you're making a mistake. Here's how to fix that mistake.
So you're highlighting the problem, but you're also providing the solution in the very same template. That creates a lot of curiosity and will pull people in. Okay? I tried something, insert whatever it is.
I tried this for 10 days, and here's what happened. I tried a sugar-free diet for 10 days, and here's what happened. See what I'm getting at? So you could build this into whatever it is that you want, okay?
5:14 Test and improve your headlines
So point number three that I wanna make, the final point, is how to test and improve your headlines. So one of the things that you can do is... especially you can do this on YouTube. A lot of people under- think that once you put up a video and you put it up there, that you can't ever change that headline or you can't change anything about the video, and that's just not true.
So if you wanted to go back into some of your older videos that you might have, and I'm just talking YouTube specifically, you could go in there and swap out some of the headlines for more curiosity-driven headlines. So if you have some in there that probably are not very powerful, you can go in there and switch them out, and it's not gonna hurt your video.
And, and it might actually just help your video, okay? So you can do some of that testing. And then again, I mentioned you can go into ChatGPT, and you can pull up some more types of headlines to test against. But one of the things you can always test and improve, try different formats, but just understand that the headline is probably the most important.
6:20 Your headline is the first hook
Now, when I'm creating videos, I also know that the hook is incredibly important. Your headline for your video is a hook in and of itself. It's like the first hook, and then you have the second hook, which is actually in the video itself.
I'm just making that up on the spot, but it's two hooks. The headline is a hook to grab them, and then the hook in the video is something you can use to grab them as well. So very, very important, okay?
6:48 Recap and leave a comment
So I just wanted to really come on here today and stress the importance that when you're doing a video, a live video, a recorded video, a short video, one of the things that's most important is you want to have a catchy headline. You wanna have a very high-hook headline that pulls people in and gets them to take action and click through and actually watch the video.
All right? So I hope you got some value out of this. If you did, leave me a comment and let me know.
